Update 10 July 09 Having had a successful meeting presented by Guy Jarvis and Simon Davison, (thank you chaps) who fielded many detailed questions, here is an interim update.
The present position is that we are building a map of those people who have expressed an interest in having the connection installed. This will enable us to do the sums to provide costings of installation for early adopters and monthly subscription as explained at the meeting.
MEETINGS
We have finally managed to arrange a meeting with NYMR (Railway) management for the end of next week.
So if they are agreeable to our proposals to provide them with a connection on our system to control their signally equipment etc, we can run a fibre cable from Pickering station to Grosmont with connections to houses and villages enroute.
We are still in negotiation with BT re sharing their poles from Levisham station so no news there.
We are also in negotiation with NYNET re available bandwidth. It is looking like we will be starting with a speed of 8 Mb, which of course is 16 times faster than our current ½ mb (that is 500k on a good day!!).
Please do not be put off by this as when higher speeds become available you will be able to take advantage of them immediately.
Please continue to visit this site for updates.
Thank you for your comtinued interest |
